A Wedding in Porvoo, Haikko Manor, an Outdoor Ceremony & Celebration at Tanssisaari
Some clients are more than clients, they become part of your story. This couple is one of those rare ones, and their wedding day meant something far deeper to me than just a photography session.
Over the years, I had the privilege of photographing their journey together: two maternity sessions, two newborn sessions, a family shoot, and a love story session. So when they asked me to be their wedding photographer in Porvoo, saying yes felt like the most natural thing in the world.
Morning at Haikko Manor
The day began gently and beautifully at Haikko Manor, one of Finland’s most elegant historic estates. The bride got ready in the manor’s timeless interiors, where golden details, tall windows and soft natural light created the perfect setting for those quiet, tender moments before the ceremony. Bridesmaids laughed and helped, details were carefully arranged, and the air was full of that specific kind of anticipation that only a wedding morning holds.
Three children, years of shared life and still, the excitement in the room was electric. Or perhaps it was electric because of all that.
Outdoor Ceremony at Tanssisaari
The ceremony took place outdoors at Tanssisaari, on the far side of the building, sheltered by pine trees with the lake quietly present in the background. A white arch, a long cathedral veil, the warmth of a Finnish summer day. When the bride walked towards her partner and their eyes met, everything else disappeared. That moment is why I do this work.
The children were there too, not just as witnesses, but as part of the celebration. This wasn’t just two people getting married. It was a family coming together.
The Celebration — Food, Cupcakes & Dancing
After the ceremony, guests moved inside Tanssisaari, one of Porvoo’s most atmospheric venues. Wooden ceiling beams, lake views and warm light made the space feel both festive and intimate.
But first, food, the Finnish way. Outside, a large grill was going, and guests helped themselves directly from it: fresh, smoky, unhurried. No formal service, just good food and good company in the summer air.
For the sweet moment, the couple had a small cake to cut together and for their guests, something even better: a stunning tower of pink cupcakes stacked on birch wood slices, each topped with golden heart picks and crowned with a Mr& Mrs topper. Personal, beautiful, and utterly them.
As the evening deepened, the dance floor filled. First dance, group photos, laughter that warm, easy energy that only happens when people who love each other are all in one room.
A Story That Spans Years
What made this wedding truly special for me? Knowing this family long before the wedding day. I had watched their family grow, round bellies, newborn fingers, toddlers becoming children. And now I was there on the day they made it all official.
That is what makes wedding photography more than a job.
