Wedding Photography at Turku Cathedral, Kasarminkatu, Arkkipiispantalo & Gräddа
Wedding Photography in Turku, Finland | Studio Happy Moment
Sometimes life writes stories you couldn’t script. I first met this couple at a wedding in Hanko. A was the maid of honour that day. Now she was the one standing at the altar, and by her side as maid of honour was the very bride whose wedding we had photographed together back then. The circle closed beautifully.
When the Weather Has Other Plans
The day began with a challenge. The forecast promised rain, and I arrived thirty minutes early to make sure we could get the outdoor portraits done before the sky opened up. It turned out to be exactly the right call.
Portraits in the Heart of Historic Turku
We began on Kasarminkatu, where the red brick buildings and quiet courtyards gave the first portraits a warm, timeless character. From there we walked towards the cathedral, pausing at the courtyard of Arkkipiispantalo, one of those places that feels purpose-built for romantic, unhurried moments. Our last outdoor stop was Gräddа, whose beautiful surroundings rounded off the exterior session perfectly. The final frames were taken just as the rain began to fall. We moved inside, and Gräddа's interiors turned out to be equally beautiful for portraits.
The Ceremony at Turku Cathedral
When the rain passed, we made our way to Turku Cathedral, one of the most beautiful and historically significant wedding venues in all of Finland.
The ceremony was intimate, with only the closest family and friends present. That small circle made everything feel personal and deeply felt. One of the most memorable moments was when a close friend of the couple played cello during the ceremony, in the cathedral’s acoustics, it was something else entirely.
The golden details, vaulted arches and centuries-old paintings made every frame feel like it belonged to another era.
A Story That Began at Someone Else’s Wedding
The small coincidences of the day, the perfectly timed start, the rain that held off just long enough, the cello in the silence of the cathedral, made this wedding day something I won’t forget. And knowing where it all began, at those Hanko wedding years before, made it even more special to be the one behind the camera.
These are the moments that remind me why I love wedding photography. Every story is unique and sometimes stories weave together in ways you never could have imagined.
