Everything You Need to Know About Preparing for Your Couple Session
Hello you lovely, a couple session is something truly special. It’s a moment just for the two of you — no rush, no everyday noise. Just you, your love and the atmosphere you create together.In this guide we’ll walk you through everything worth thinking about in advance: what to wear, how to relax in front of the camera — and why you don’t need to know how to do anything at all. We’ll guide you through the entire session.
What to wear?
Coordinate, don’t match.
You don’t need to dress in identical outfits or the same colours — but it’s worth making sure your outfits work together in mood and colour palette.
Practicality is style.
Wear shoes you can genuinely walk in — uncomfortable shoes show in your posture and your face. If we’re shooting in nature or on an island, bring a spare pair if needed.
Try your outfit on in advance.
Try on your chosen outfit a couple of days before the session — not that morning, but ahead of time. That way you’ll know everything fits well and is comfortable to move in, with no last-minute panic.
Colours that work in nature.
For outdoor sessions in natural settings, earthy tones work best: beige, cream, terracotta, olive green, deep blue and rusty brown. Avoid large logos, busy prints and bright neon colours — they draw the eye to the clothes instead of you.
Colours that work in the city.
In the city, it’s worth choosing your palette based on the location — and in Helsinki, every neighbourhood has its own colour world. Soft, dusty tones in front of Eira’s Art Nouveau villas; cream and terracotta alongside the pastel houses of Huvilakatu; clean whites and deep blues in the classical setting of Senate Square; black and cognac in the urban pulse of Aleksanterinkatu; and rich, dramatic colours against the Art Nouveau details of Katajanokka. Bring something meaningful to you
A favourite blanket, a favourite drink, pizza, your dog or cat — anything that says something about you as a couple. These little details are what make your photos unique and truly yours.

The details
Remember your nails. We often photograph close-ups of hands: rings, touches, moments of connection. A manicure is a small detail that shows up beautifully in the photos.
Hair. If you’re planning a haircut or colour, do it 1–2 weeks before the session — not right before.
In front of the camera
“But we don’t know how to pose.”
The biggest fear we hear from couples before a session: “But we don’t know how to pose.” We have one answer to that: good — we’re glad you don’t.
The best photos don’t come from posing. They come from real moments: laughter, smiles, movement, being close, that whisper in the ear.
We’ll guide you through the whole session by giving you things to do and moments to throw yourselves into. You don’t need to know where to put your hands — we’ll tell you.
Nerves at the start are completely normal. Almost every couple feels nervous before a session. Usually the nerves melt away within the first 10–15 minutes — and from there on, the magic starts to happen.
