A Relaxed Maternity Shoot at Lammassaari
There’s something truly magical about late summer evenings in Helsinki. The sun sets beautifully slowly, bathing the nature trails in a soft golden light, with the warmth of summer still in the air. On this particular evening, we were treated to a flawless golden hour that lasted almost two hours—giving us plenty of time for a peaceful, unhurried shoot.

This shoot is a perfect example of why knowing your locations matters and why a good maternity photographer in Helsinki always has a backup plan. We had originally arranged to meet near the Tekniikan museo in Vanhakaupunki, but when we arrived, the entire area was blocked off due to construction. The beautiful riverside spot we had planned to use was completely inaccessible.
Rather than settling for something mediocre, I suggested we move. Just nearby are the stunning Pornaistenniemi meadows and the Lammassaari wooden trail and honestly? It turned out to be the better choice.
Three outfits, three moods
The mama-to-be had brought three beautiful outfits, which gave the session such lovely variety. We started in a warm orange dress that glowed against the lush greenery, then moved to a soft white gown by the water’s edge, and finished with a relaxed beige look as the light turned golden.
Despite the unexpected change of plans, the atmosphere stayed calm and unhurried throughout and that shows in the images. There’s real joy and quiet anticipation in every frame.
After the session, I received the loveliest message. Sometimes a small detour leads to something even more beautiful than what you originally imagined.
