A Documentary Family Session at Home in Munkkivuori, Helsinki

Music lives in the walls of this home. Both parents are musicians, and you can tell — in the middle of the session, the little girl started to sing, so beautifully, with such a clear voice, that I paused behind the camera just to listen. A gift like that isn’t taught, it’s inherited, it grows in a home filled with song.

Oh, the tenderness, when the big sister reaches over the edge of the crib toward her little brother, when they lie side by side on soft white sheets and look at each other in a way that makes your heart overflow. That kind of sibling love cannot be staged, it simply exists, right there in the middle of everyday life, in the soft morning light.

And the mother in her yellow dress by the bookshelf, children in her lap, a storybook open, those moments that feel so ordinary and are precious for exactly that reason. The father’s laughter on the pink sofa, the whole family together, tickles, hugs, singing, all that lovely bustle a home is full of right now, this year, at this age.

This is what a documentary family session at home is all about. No posing, no perfection, just your life, exactly as it is. Little hands, sleep-soft cheeks, snippets of songs in the middle of play, the glances you exchange when you think no one is watching.

And time passes so quietly, almost in secret. The girl who was just a baby at the wedding now sings her own songs and will soon be reading stories to her little brother. That is why these photographs exist, so that one day you can return, to this morning, to this home, to this moment when everything was exactly like this.
